The Bedford Community Cafe

An uncomfortable truth

Early in our story, we found a man sleeping rough under the floor of the hall we hired at that time. We realised then that what happens inside church is of limited value if there isn’t a tangible impact on those beyond the walls (or under the floor).

A church without walls

As a start-up organisation, we knew we couldn’t reach everyone, but we were determined to do something. We asked questions, listened and began to imagine  having a coffee van that could go where people are; not expect them to come to us.

Found on a sheep farm in rural NSW, we discovered a deserted van. Slowly the Bedford was restored and professionally fitted out to eventually become a road registered and council approved coffee van.
